I am a designer who enjoys both the technical and creative aspects of building and shipping digital products. Product design, design systems, and visual design are my passions. Photography, writing, and travel are my hobbies.
Product
THINK.BOUNCEX.COM
Concept, develop and ship BounceX's blog (while learning WordPress development).
Outcome: I delivered the final product ahead of schedule and with more features than set out in the MVP goal.
Summary: After fact-finding and wireframing, I created initial visual concepts. I then moved into product design of the WP backend, working with the bloggers to build powerful but intuitive controls over things like CSS gradients, call-to-action text, guest authors, and many other features. This meant lots of iterative design to get the posting process just right. I also developed technical guidelines for the illustrators. Lastly, I developed a design system off the final visual design and discovered a neat flexbox grid trick.
GameChangers
Develop a new website section to highlight gamechangers in the marketing sector.
Outcome: The final product has been a great success for driving extra traffic to the site.
Summary: I took the completed page design and built the WordPress page type as well as the backend posting experience. One of the more interesting design problems I solved was showcasing both the interviewee portrait and video in the same space. I also developed the photography guidelines and productized the creation of hero images with templates and photoshop actions.
WHERE THE TRUCK WEB APP
Make finding nearby food trucks easy and fun.
Outcome: With the final design you can find local foodtrucks with just one click.
Summary: This mobile first web app addresses Greenville's dire need for an easy way to find local food trucks. Through multiple rounds of user testing I refined the product to do one thing very well, let you easily answer the question - "Where The Truck?" Click the title above to see the web app with test data. Real data coming soon! Or click here to sign up for really cool updates.
BounceX.com
Optimize code, maintain site, coordinate work on site.
Outcome: Drastic reduction and unification of CSS codebase. Much faster turn around from requests to changes going live.
Summary: I performed day-to-day upkeep and oversaw other developer work on the site. I also created a design system for the card-based subpages — unifying typography, code, interactions, colors, and layout. This drastically reduced the code base while adding visual consistency.

Interface
Podcast Organic UI
Create a beautiful interface without relying on photos or album art.
Outcome: Space, negative space, and color are used to draw attention to controls.
Summary: Starting out I setup some constraints — forget relying on photos or album art and create a beautiful interface from shapes and colors. Better yet, one that is shaped for human hands. Gone are straight lines and in are controls that follow the natural arc of the thumb. I call this UI style "Organic Material".
Photography Website
Design a minimal UI that uses motion to draw attention to interactive elements rather than visual dominance.
Outcome: A lightweight photosite available as open source.
Summary: The photos are the most important content on the page so the UI should support that hierarchy without being lost. Designing a UI that needs to not dominate visually seems like a fool's errand but by using motion to draw the eye it is possible.
Where The Truck UI
Create an interface that mimics the chalkboard menus found on food trucks.
Outcome: Fun typography, witty sayings, and bright colors make for an engaging experience.
Summary: The design system developed is intentional in what typeface and color represents interactive elments and what is merely informational. Through many rounds of user testing I refined the product down to an intuitive experience. With the final design people are able to easily locate nearby food trucks, find their location, and see their schedule.

Branding & Art
Upstate Custom Builders
Create an architecture inspired logo with an upscale feel.
Outcome: A logo that stands out from the competition and aligns with the message of the builder.
Summary: The client is a design & build firm so I integrated those aspects with a hammer and drafting compass. Giving a slight 3D bevel to the crest completed the architecture inspired feel. The logo can be displayed as full logo, badge, or just type treatment.
Inkswift
Create a fun, colorful logo for the self-publishing arm of Ambassador International.
Outcome: Branding that is a more playful take compared to Ambassador's main brand.
Summary: Drawing on the brand colors of Ambassador International, I added a lighter, more saturated blue. I then designed a logo that had a playful feel while maintaining credibility. The logo is designed to work as just a circle with text or the full illustration.
Where The Truck
Create an illustration based logo that works well on web and in print.
Outcome: A flexible logo with consistent voice guides, style guides, and poster design.
Summary: The logo was designed with both a light and dark background variant. It also was designed to be recognizable at distance on posters while looking great up close on a screen. On the web app the circle background changes from a sun to a moon based on time of day, adding even more flexibility.
Talk Coffee To Me Pin
Learn the ins and outs of enamel pin design
Outcome: My very first enamel pin.
Summary: I love enamel pins and wanted to learn more about the constraints and guidelines for creating them so I self-produced this pin as an homage to the fuel that keeps me going. No matter the season or time of day, always talk coffee to me.
Elusive Golden Iber
Create a beautiful pixel illustration of a mythical creature.
Outcome: Something to be proud of.
Summary: What can I say? I'm a big fan of pixel art. I hope to do more of these illustrations in the future.
